19th Century French Green Glazed Grain Pot
19th Century French Green Glazed Grain Pot
Couldn't load pickup availability
French provincial grain pot with a strong green glaze and double handles is old, worn and sculptural. Being more upright, compact and less internal glazing this grain pot is similar to a traditional confit, with the same authentic glaze and character.
With solid weight, good scale, and surface wear exactly where you want it — along the rim, handles, and body, this is art born from practical beginnings
Works easily on a shelf, bench, or as a small floor piece.
DESCRIPTION
A late 19th to early 20th century French storage pot, originally used for grains and general provisions.
Wheel-thrown in terracotta and finished in a traditional green lead glaze, applied quickly and unevenly — giving the tonal variation and depth across the surface.
The form is simple and functional: wide mouth, rolled rim, and two small side handles for lifting.
Wear is consistent with age and use, with glaze loss to the rim and handles, and scattered chips across the body revealing the warm clay beneath. No decorative overworking — just honest material.
A practical size that sits comfortably in most spaces without needing to be styled heavily.
