We were drawn immediately to this exceptional mirrors ornate yet strong and unique structure.

The carving is deep and deliberate, with a weight and presence that only comes from pieces made to sit within architecture, not just decorate it.

This is not a light piece. It was made to anchor a room.

The frame is built from solid timber, with hand-carved scrolls and acanthus detailing that hold shadow rather than reflect light. The finish has softened over time into a rich, muted tone — somewhere between aged walnut and burnished gilt.

The mirror plate has been replaced and divided into panels, which allows the frame to read more like a piece of joinery than a reflective surface. It feels considered, not pristine.

This would have originally sat above a mantel or within a paneled wall — and it still carries that intent. It works best when given space, where the carving can settle into the room rather than compete with it.

We are always drawn to pieces that feel grounded. This is one of them.

The frame is deeply carved in the Rococo manner, with flowing C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and a central crest. The carving is substantial and undercut, giving it a sculptural quality that shifts throughout the day as light moves across the surface.

The finish has aged beautifully, now sitting in a restrained, darkened tone that avoids the brightness often associated with gilt pieces. It allows the form to lead, rather than the finish.

The mirror plate is later and divided into sections, which adds to its architectural feel and softens the overall presence.

This is a piece designed for scale — suited to sit above a fireplace, along a long wall, or in a space that benefits from a sense of structure and permanence.

It is heavy, and has the physical presence to match. It deserves a very special place to exist.
