Strong, architectural presence with the stepped corners feel almost like carved stone rather than timber, giving it weight and intention. It’s not overly ornate, yet it holds the wall with confidence.

The bevelled mirror edge is an important feature. The angled edge refracts light differently to the main mirror, you get a faint highlight around the perimeter, and the edge almost “glows” in certain lighting.

The gilt finish is softly aged, with variation across the surface that catches the light in a subtle, layered way.

A piece that brings shape and balance to a space,  we decided to showcase it styled in a classic setting and a contrasting Italian modern style to inspire, the great thing about mirrors? You can move them around!

Description

We sourced this mirror in Italy, where we are often drawn to pieces that sit between decorative and architectural.

The design references classical forms — you see it in the stepped corners and the small rosette details — but it doesn’t feel overly traditional. The geometry gives it structure, while the softened gilt finish keeps it approachable.

What we like most is how it works within a room. It can anchor a wall, sit comfortably above a console, or lean into a more layered setting without feeling heavy.

The finish has been gently aged, with deeper tones sitting in the recesses and lighter areas catching the light. This gives the frame depth and avoids the flatness of newer gilding.

It’s a piece that feels considered rather than decorative for decoration’s sake.
