A beautifully proportioned oval mirror with a sculptural scroll crest, sourced in Italy, and loved at first sight!

it is beautifully sculptural and has undeniable presence

The softly worn gilding carries a warmth that only comes with age. The double-framed oval adds structure within the fluid carving, creating a balance between elegance and movement. The crest detail at the top is magnificent with generous projection - this is no flat mirror - it is has sass and depth

A piece that sits easily into both classic and contemporary interiors, bringing softness, light, and a sense of story to a space.

Description

This Italian giltwood mirror is designed in the Rococo tradition, where form is guided by natural movement — scrolling lines, shell-like details, and a sense of lightness despite its presence.

The hand-carved frame has been finished in layered gesso and gilding, now gently worn back in places to reveal warmer undertones beneath. This gives the piece its depth and authenticity — not overly polished, but quietly expressive.

The oval form is framed within a second, finer beaded edge, adding a subtle architectural structure to the otherwise fluid silhouette. At the crest, the carving rises into a soft scroll, providing a focal point without overpowering the piece.

It works beautifully above a fireplace, in an entry, or layered into a room with antiques and modern pieces alike. The finish reflects light softly rather than brightly, making it particularly suited to calm, tonal interiors.
