An outstanding discovery, we could not leave this piece of French war history behind rich in history and remarkable to look at, this would be at home as a sculpture piece with a difference.

Brass and leather chainettes connect the back and breast plate or they can stand separately.

The text on the inside of the cuirass reads: "Four Taille 1ere Largeur No 2982". This inscription likely refers to the size and production number of the armor. "Taille" is French for size, "1ere Largeur" likely indicates the width or fit, and "No 2982" is the serial or production number. "Four" might refer to a batch or series number.

The inscription on the French cuirass reads "Mre d'Armes de Châtell et 9bre 1870," indicating it was manufactured at the Châtellerault arms factory in November 1870. Cuirasses like this were worn by French heavy cavalry and served as body armor. They typically consist of a breastplate and backplate, often made of steel or iron. The inscription provides insight into the cuirass's origin and production date, placing it within the historical context of the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871)
