Hand-Carved Italian Torchère Floor Candlestick Italy, Late 19th Century

Incredibly unique, this discovery of monumental Italian torchère appealed on every level, from its beautifully aged olive and sage-toned painted finish, dramatic paw-foot base and elegant hand-turned silhouette.

Originally created as a floor candlestick for grand European interiors, this sculptural piece now works beautifully as a statement object in both traditional and contemporary spaces, with styling ideas aplenty  

Authentic age, layered patina and visible imperfections give the surface extraordinary depth and warmth impossible to recreate. A rare decorative piece with strong architectural presence.

The elongated hand-turned shaft is finished in layers of timeworn olive and sage-toned paint with dark bronze-toned detailing, naturally rubbed and softened through decades of age and use. Fine crackling, exposed undertones and surface variation throughout reveal the unmistakable character of genuine antique surfaces.

The tripod paw-foot base adds a dramatic neoclassical quality, while the restrained silhouette allows it to sit comfortably beside a limestone fireplace, in an entrance hall, layered into a library or used to bring sculptural height to quieter spaces. Super high ceiling? Elevate it further onto a sideboard. This is a zero rule piece! With a 20cm diameter top you can have a robust and beautiful candle sitting on it.

Condition
Consistent with age and use. Surface wear, rubbing, crackling and minor losses to the painted finish throughout. Age-related timber movement and imperfections present and celebrated as part of the piece’s authenticity and charm.

Styling Notes
Particularly beautiful paired with limestone, antique brass, natural linen and layered European textures. Works equally well in contemporary interiors where sculptural antique forms are used to create warmth and contrast.
