An original late 19th century iron cradle, now fitted with a removable glass top.

The form is untouched — scrollwork, finials, and rocking base all intact — simply made usable. Sourced with a Neapolitan family provenance, it carries both structure and story without needing embellishment.

Works best as a narrow console, where light can move through the frame and the ironwork can read properly.

DESCRIPTION

A late 19th century European cradle in hand-forged iron, later adapted with a custom glass top.

The construction is architectural: curved rockers, enclosed sides with vertical rods, and arched uprights finished with turned brass finials. Originally designed to rock, the base still holds that gentle curve, now acting as a strong visual line rather than a functional one.

The surface shows consistent age — oxidised iron with softened edges and no over-restoration. The glass top sits cleanly within the frame and can be removed if preferred.

Sourced with a Neapolitan family provenance.

This is a piece that holds its own without over-styling — the negative space and structure do the work.
