this spectacular antique French Oval Glass Dome with a Marquetry Base is 1 of a 3 piece collection from Paris circa 1860–1880
A superb nineteenth-century French glass display dome featuring a hand-blown oval glass shade raised on an ebonised base with decorative floral marquetry and brass stringing
The elegant oval form is far less commonly encountered than traditional circular examples and provides an exceptional display case for sculpture, architectural fragments, natural curiosities or treasured collections. You know it is something special the way the hand blown glass is lightly irregular playing with the light and letting you know this is authentic
The base is beautifully detailed with floral inlay and retains the craftsmanship and refinement associated with the Napoleon III period.
A striking decorative object in its own right and a wonderful collector’s piece.
